5 held in UP’s Jaunpur after video of rape attempt goes viral | Varanasi News – Times of India

JAUNPUR: Five individuals have been apprehended following a video depicting an attempted rape of a teenage girl in a village within the Machhilshahr area of Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district was circulated, police said on Thursday.

In her formal complaint to the police, the mother of the girl alleged that during the night of August 14, she, her spouse, and their daughter were asleep in the verandah of their house. Allegedly, a group of six young men with whom they had a longstanding feud arrived, rendering the daughter unconscious before forcibly taking her away, ASP (Rural) Shailendra Singh said.
According to the ASP, the mother’s complaint alleges that the young girl was taken to a nearby sugarcane field, where the accused attempted to sexually assault her. When the girl’s cries for help reached her family members, they swiftly arrived at the scene, prompting the assailants to flee.

The mother revealed that they initially refrained from reporting the incident due to societal shame. However, the accused individuals themselves released a video of the incident on Wednesday, which subsequently went viral. This prompted the authorities to initiate legal proceedings against the six individuals implicated in the case: Ashish, Vicky, Gore, Pramod, Pappu, and Seshamani.
Ajay Pal Sharma, the superintendent of police, confirmed that five of the accused were apprehended on Wednesday. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the remaining suspect.
