To declare someone dead, the Panchayat requires a death certificate without which it is impossible to update the system. However, my mother’s name was not even on the list of the dead, Reger said.
Gattu Devi along with her son also went to the e-Mitra center for biometric identification, but to no avail.
Her son said, “We went to the center three-four times. However, due to her old age, her fingerprints could not be taken.”
The matter calmed down after coming to the notice of the authorities.
“The matter has come to our notice. Why would the department declare someone dead? There must be some technical error. Hari Mohan Meena, Director, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment said, from next month the pension will be resumed and the arrears will also be deposited.
The officials also informed that the verification process is done by the field workers, which is under enquiry.
There are three layers in this process which takes time, after completion of which the pension and arrears are released.
According to officials, the department has also started self-verification through a mobile application through which anyone, including the elderly and disabled, can get their verification done sitting at home. This step has been taken in view of the difficulties faced in conducting biometric verification.
After learning about the case of Gattu Devi, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Department Tika Ram July He directed his Officer on Special Duty to take necessary steps and start the pension immediately after taking complete details of the account.
The minister’s action was sought because the state government is organizing dearness relief camps where the government is providing information and benefits of its 10 ambitious schemes, including pensions, to various beneficiaries.
Investigation revealed that the verification was pending due to amendment in Jan Aadhar card (ID for citizens of Rajasthan) by pensioners in April 2023. The Jan Aadhaar team has been asked to complete the verification work at the earliest. After which the department has activated the pension account and the pension will start again from next month. Balance amount will also be added.
