Varanasi: More than 4 lakh devotees including Kanwariyas performed Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the first Monday of the Hindu holy month of Shravan.
While red carpets were laid for the pilgrims in KV Dham, flowers were showered on Kanwariyas from helicopters in KV. markandeya Mahadev Temple.
KVD CEO Sunil Verma said that by 6 pm, 4.20 lakh devotees including Kanwariyas had visited the temple. First arrival of Kanwariyas in KV Dham area after formal inauguration by Prime Minister in 2022 Narendra Modi Verma said, on the first Monday of Shravan in December 2021, this figure was above 5 lakh.
He said saffron-clad kanwwariyas had reached the barricading installed for entry through Ganga Dwar, Saraswati Phatak, Dhundhiraj and Godowlia gate of KVD since Sunday evening.
After Mangala Aarti at around 4 in the morning, the doors of the sanctum sanctorum of the KV temple were opened for worship and Jalabhishek. Verma along with the office bearers and members of the temple trust welcomed the devotees by showering flowers amid chanting of invocations.
