Citing people with knowledge of the matter, the report said the iPhone maker has built its own framework for building large language models (LLMs), known as “Ajax”, and also a chatbot. Testing what some engineers call “Apple GPT”.
The company did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Apple hasn’t made any major strides in AI so far and even avoided mentioning the discussion at its developer conference in June – unlike other tech giants Alphabet And Microsoft Which has taken bold steps to incorporate revolutionary technology.
However, Apple has also subtly pushed advanced AI in some of its products such as apple pictureson device texting, and the recently launched mixed-reality headset vision pro, Still, analysts say the company lags behind competitors in incorporating new technology.
Apple’s main AI product, voice assistant Siri, has also stagnated over the years.
The latest AI effort involves multiple teams, led by John Giannandrea, the company’s head of machine learning and AI, and Craig Federighi, Apple’s top software engineering executive, the Bloomberg report said.
According to the report, Apple’s new virtual assistant summarizes text and answers questions based on the data it has been trained with and is being used internally for product prototypes. Employees say the tool essentially mimics Bard, ChatGPT and Bing AI, and operates as a web application.
According to the report, Apple doesn’t have any concrete plans for the tools it’s developing yet, but it aims to make an important AI-related announcement next year.
