Ayanur Manjunath is 10th MLA to quit BJP to contest on JD(S) ticket Bengaluru News – Times of India

Bengaluru: BJP MLC Ayanur Manjunath, a prominent Lingayat Chehra, who on Wednesday became the 10th MLA to quit the party, will contest the election from Shivamogga city on a JD(S) ticket against BJP’s Channabasappa.
The BJP denied ticket to the son of sitting MLA KS Eshwarappa, who announced his retirement from electoral politics last month, amid speculation that his son Kanthesh would get the seat. Instead, the BJP chose first-timer Channabasappa, a Shivamogga city corporator close to Eshwarappa and with roots in the RSS.
Upset over not getting tickets, 10 sitting MLAs—three MLAs and seven MLCs—have quit the BJP in the past few days. Thursday is the last day for filing nomination papers.
The JD(S) is yet to announce candidates for five seats and the Congress for four. BJP has announced candidates for all 224 seats.
JD(S) also announced 70 more candidates. Former Congress MP Anil Lad, who was denied ticket by his party, has been fielded from Ballari town. With several former MLAs and MPs joining the party from the Congress and the BJP, the JD(S) was forced to change candidates on 12 seats. Suryakant, son of ex-minister Gurupadappa Nagamarpalli, who was denied ticket by BJP, will contest from Bidar and former BJP MLA don’t worry nike Candidates have been fielded from the Hagaribommanahalli seat in Vijayanagar.
Former BJP MLA Kumaraswamy MP, who missed out on the BJP ticket, will be the JD(S) candidate for the Mudigere seat in Chikkamagaluru.
Congress has cut the MLA ticket Pulakeshi NagarAkhand Srinivasamurthy. In Shiggaon, where CM Basavaraj Bommai is contesting, replaces Congress Mohd Yusuf Sawnur Together Yasir Ahmed Khan JD Pathan, BJP has chosen Biwi Nayak for Manvi ST reserved seat.
