With just one day left for the filing of nominations for the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka, the ruling BJP on Wednesday released its fourth list of candidates for the remaining two constituencies – Shivamogga and Manvi.
In Shivamogga, the party has fielded Channabasappa, denying the family of sitting MLA and senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa.
Eshwarappa, a former deputy chief minister, had recently conveyed his desire to retire from electoral politics to the party’s central leadership, and requested Shivamogga not to field him in the assembly polls.
The five-time MLA from the seat, however, is said to have sought a ticket for his son KE Kantesh from the constituency.
Senior BJP leader and MLC Ayanur Manjunath, who was a contender for ticket from Shivamogga, today quit the party and joined JD(S). He is now the JD(S) candidate from the region.
The party has fielded BV Nayak from ST reserved constituency Manvi.
With the announcement of this list, the BJP has announced candidates for all the 224 assembly constituencies in the state.
April 20 is the last date for filing nominations. The polling will be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
