The Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police has initiated legal proceedings and an internal inquiry against a suspended circle inspector who has been accused of sexually assaulting an accused in a child abuse case.
The Aiyarur police registered a case against their former Station House Officer Jaisnil on the basis of a complaint by a youth, who was arrested in October in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
The youth, who had allegedly fled abroad after being booked in the case, was ordered to return to his home town by Jaisal, who was the investigating officer in the case. The officer had allegedly collected over ₹ 1 lakh after assuring to settle the matter.
When the complainant returned on October 18, Jayasnil asked the youth to meet him at the police quarters. She allegedly sexually assaulted the youth in the quarters before registering her arrest at the police station the next day. They submitted the charge sheet within three days.
The youth, who was released on bail a few days ago, lodged a complaint with the District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) and the State Police Complaints Authority. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by KJ Johnson, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Crime Branch, has been constituted to probe the matter.
Jaisnal is currently under suspension for allegedly accepting a bribe from the owner of a resort during the raid.
