Chhattisgarh Road Accident: Eleven people, including five women and two children, were killed when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district, police said on Thursday (May 4). Police said the victims were residents of Soram-Bhatgaon village in Dhamtari district and were on their way to a wedding. The accident took place on National Highway-30 on Wednesday night near Jagtara village under Purur police station area.

Station House Officer of Purur police station Arun Kumar Sahoo said the victims were on their way to attend a wedding at Markatola village in Kanker district when their vehicle collided with a truck. Ten people traveling in the Mahindra Bolero died on the spot, while a child succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, he said.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem, he said, adding efforts are on to trace the truck driver, who fled the spot leaving behind his vehicle. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed grief over the incident.

Further investigation is underway and details are awaited.
