With Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday formally launching registrations for the Congress government’s third pre-poll guarantee scheme, Griha Lakshmi, women beneficiaries can start registering to avail monthly Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹2,000 in the state. Speaking after launching the scheme, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Congress is in favor of empowerment of women in all spheres and women should get reservation in Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha. “The central government has the opportunity to provide this facility. If they take a bold step to clear the Women’s Reservation Bill, we will extend our full support,” he said.

The three beneficiaries – Anandi Lingaiah, Suma S. Prabhakar, and Satya B. Symbolically giving the nod to the Congress, the Chief Minister said that though the opposition BJP had doubts about the five guarantees, the Congress government had implemented three guarantees within two months. coming to power He said that the DBT of ₹2,000 under Griha Lakshmi would start from August 16.

“The opposition was under the impression that we would not be able to fulfill the promises. They say the state will go bankrupt, but we will show them that we will not go back on our words,” said the chief minister.

‘Other states under pressure’

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the implementation of the scheme in the state is putting pressure on other states to emulate Karnataka. “The chief ministers of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, who were here for the opposition meeting, appreciated the scheme and said they are now under pressure to start a similar program in their states,” he said.

Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Women and Child Development, Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens said, “It is a worthwhile program to empower women. Significantly, we are starting the program on Bank Nationalization Day celebrated on 19th July.

Stating that registration under the scheme is free, the minister said that any query regarding the scheme can be clarified on the helpline (1902) or by sending an SMS or WhatsApp message to 8147500500.

Under Griha Lakshmi, the female head of the household, as mentioned in the ration card (BPL, APL and Antyodaya Card), will be the eligible beneficiary. However, she or her husband should not be a tax payer (income tax or GST payer), the chief minister said.
