Coimbatore: Heavy Rain It rained in the city on Tuesday evening, causing waterlogging under the old flyover on Avinashi Road.
After three hours of effort, the Municipal Corporation got the water drained out by deploying personnel and machinery.
An official of the engineering department said that the rain stopped at 8.30 pm. By then eight feet of water had accumulated under the flyover. Corporation workers used two pumps of 30HP, one 50HP pump and one 20HP pump to remove it. Traffic was restored after the work was completed at 11.30 pm.
Municipal commissioner M Pratap and mayor Kalpana Anandkumar inspected the site at 12.30 pm and directed officials to keep machinery ready for more rains.
Although it rained heavily on Wednesday evening, but not much water stagnated under the flyover.
But the rain left the railway underpass corner of lanka submerged. The civic body deployed trucks equipped with pumps to pump out the water. Due to the rain, traffic from the underpass was disrupted for two hours.
The official said teams have been put on alert to deal with any eventuality.
