Interestingly, in the last four elections including this election, JD(S) has got at least half of the seats from South Karnataka. This time the party is getting around 20 seats and 13 are from this region. In the last elections, JDS had 24 out of 37 seats from this part of the state, and even in 2013 and 2008, half of the party’s total seats were from this region, according to ECI data accessed by News18. Compared to the results of 2018, this time the Congress party has snatched five seats from BJP and 13 seats from JD(S). Moreover, Congress has secured more seats than JD(S) and BJP combined.

In 2018, the BJP had won nine seats including Gundlupet, Chamaraja, Tiptur, Tumkur City and Nanjangud. This time the Congress has captured these five seats.

The 13 seats that the Congress is wresting from the JD(S) are T Narsipur, Periyapatna, Krishnarajanagara, Arsikere, Krishnarajapete, Chintamani, Nagamangala, Srirangapatna, Madhugiri, Maddur, Malavalli, Kolar and Sira.

If we look at the last four assembly elections in the state, BJP has never got good numbers in this region. The nine seats in 2018 were its biggest hold since at least the 2008 elections.

As per the latest available figures, the Congress had won 133 seats in the elections and was leading in three. JD(S) had won 19 seats. BJP had won 63 seats and was leading in 2.
