A godown at Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district collapsed on Saturday afternoon. Dog squad has also been deployed in the rescue work.
The death toll in the warehouse collapse in Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra has risen to 6. One person was pulled from the wreckage after 20 hours. He has been admitted to the hospital. So far 10 people have been rescued safely. The owner of the godown has been taken into custody. The relief and rescue work is going on for the second day as well. NDRF Commander Deepak Tiwari told that a girl child was rescued by our dog squad. The dogs are doing a great job. They are good at searching.
The accident happened on Saturday afternoon. A three-storey godown collapsed, trapping people living and working in the complex.
Avinash Sawant, head of the regional disaster management cell, said several people were feared trapped under the debris. The ground plus two-storey building in Vardhaman compound collapsed at around 1.45 pm, he said. A family of four lived on the upper floor, while laborers worked on the ground floor. He said fire tenders from Bhiwandi, Thane and other nearby areas have been deployed for the search and rescue operation.
Rescue workers safely pulled a child out of the rubble.
NDRF’s rescue operation continued in the night as well.
