CHENNAI: A trio, who smuggled 423 kg of ganja in a vehicle with a ‘On Government of India duty’ sticker, were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths in Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram on Thursday.

Based on a tip-off, an NCB team intercepted a pickup vehicle at Pitchainkottai on the RS Mangalam-Paramakudi Road. While the vehicle had coconut saplings, several bags were found hidden underneath. The bags contained dry ganja leaves.
In total, 423kg of ganja was seized from the vehicle. A car that escorted the pickup vehicle was also intercepted and seized.

Inquiries revealed that the smugglers sourced the ganja from Andhra Pradesh and were planning to smuggle it to Sri Lanka. All three accused were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
