Belagavi/Koppal: Former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday campaigned for the party’s candidate from Yamakanmardi, Maruthi Astagi. After being denied a ticket by the BJP, Astagi joined the secular party.
During the campaign, the former CM said that BJP and Congress have compromised politics for power in the state and have forgotten moral politics.
Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that JD(S) would win 6-8 constituencies out of 18 in Belagavi district.
Kumaraswamy recalled that he and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda had launched several programs for the development of the district. He claimed, “When I was chief minister twice, I waived farmers’ loans and preferred the approval of the Sugarcane Bill.”
“All farmers, including sugarcane growers, are not getting fair prices. Even after 75 years of independence, the poverty of the farmers could not be eradicated, there is no employment for the youth General People are suffering due to price rise, governments under BJP and Congress rule have been looted,” alleged Kumaraswamy.

“The JD(S) is strong as a regional party and will show its strength in the elections,” Kumaraswamy said.
Talking to reporters in Koppal, he talked about the Congress manifesto to ban Bajrang Dal. “If there are mistakes in the organization, they should be corrected. There is no need for the Congress to talk about banning the organization in the manifesto.
