India’s AI super computer In the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC 2023) held in Germany, ‘Airavat’ got number 75 in the world. AI Supercomputer ‘Airavat’ is installed at C-DAC, Pune. The supercomputer has been named in the 61st edition of the recently released Top 500 Global Supercomputing list. airavat PSAI, with a remarkable speed of 13,170 Teraflops (Rpeak), is India’s largest and fastest AI supercomputing system.
Airavat is manufactured by Netweb Technologies. Its operating system is Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS. The supercomputer is powered by AMD EPYC 7742 64C 2.25GHz processor with 81,344 cores. The super computer has been installed this year.
Speaking on this achievement, Shri Alkesh Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) said, “Artificial Intelligence is the most promising technology in the digital age. India has a strong ecosystem and competitive advantage for AI due to massive data availability, strong digital economy and skilled workforce. India is focusing on developing solutions for natural language processing, image processing, pattern recognition, agriculture, medical imaging, education, healthcare, audio assistance, robotics and strategic sectors in Applied AI. He said that India will pursue AI technology to empower citizens and organizations to solve the most pressing problems of society and economy to make the world a better place.
What is top 500 list
The Top 500 lists the 500 fastest computer systems in use today. The collection was started in 1993 and has been updated every 6 months since then. The report lists the sites that contain the 500 most powerful computer systems installed around the world. The best Linpack benchmark performance achieved is used as a performance measure in ranking computers. The Linpack benchmark is a measure of the floating-point rate of execution of a computer. It is determined by running a computer program that solves a complex system of linear equations. The characteristics of the benchmark have changed slightly over the years.
