Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring has accepted defeat Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll On 13th May and congratulated Aam Aadmi Party and its candidate Sushil Rinku.

As per the latest trends available on the Election Commission’s website, Rinku is leading by a margin of 58,430 votes over his nearest rival and Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Choudhary. The result has not yet been declared by the Election Commission.

“We humbly accept the people’s mandate! I thank the party workers, volunteers, supporters and the entire @INCPunjab leadership for their hard work and efforts for the #Jalandhar bypoll. I congratulate Sushil Rinku and AAP Congratulations on the win.” Waring tweeted.

Voting for the bypoll was necessitated on May 10 following the death of Karamjit Kaur’s husband and Congress MP Santokh Singh Choudhary in January. Counting of votes started at 8 am

AAP’s Rinku has been maintaining a steady lead over his nearest rival ever since the counting of votes began.

Nineteen candidates contested the by-election, in which 54.70% polling was recorded. This was far below the 63.04% voter turnout recorded in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
