A man was killed and his wife injured when an IED planted by the CPI (Maoist) exploded in a forest in West Singhbhum district. A senior police officer gave this information on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar said that the deceased has been identified as Kande Laguri (50 years), a resident of Luiya village. Laguri went to the forest on Wednesday with his wife to collect kendu leaves. Then there was an explosion. Laguri suffered serious injuries in the blast while his wife suffered minor injuries.

When the villagers came to know about the incident the next morning, they informed the police. Thereafter, police along with CRPF, Jharkhand Jaguar and Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot.

The SP said that the security personnel have recovered the body with the help of the villagers and it is being taken to the Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa for post-mortem.

Earlier this month, on May 19, an IED had exploded in Rolabrupi Jenggada forest near Rengrahatu village in West Singhbhum district. IEDs were planted here targeting the security forces. A ten-year-old child was killed in the blast.
