Karnataka Elections: Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar files nomination as Congress candidate

Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, who recently quit the BJP to join the Congress, on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency after taking out a procession along with former ministers MB Patil and RV Deshpande and others. Filed.

Mr Shettar’s nomination was one of the 47 sets of nomination papers filed on Wednesday for seven assembly constituencies in Dharwad district.

Prominent among them were former Minister KN Gaddi (JDS), former MLAs SI Chikkanagoudra (independent), and Virabhadrappa Halaharavi (JD-S).

BJP’s Hubballi-Dharwad Central candidate Mahesh Tenginakai, pitted against Mr Shettar, also filed his nomination papers on Wednesday. He is about to file another set of nominations after taking out a procession with BJP leaders on Thursday.

AAP candidate from HD-Central Vikas Sopin also filed his nomination papers. Nagraj Chabbi, who recently joined BJP from Congress, filed his nomination papers as BJP candidate from Kalaghatgi constituency. He will be pitted against his friend-turned-foe former minister Santosh Lad.

Navalgund got four nominations, Kundagol nine, Dharwad four, Hubli-Dharwad East seven, Hubli Dharwad Central eight, Hubli Dharwad West 10 and Kalaghatgi five, according to a release issued by District Election Officer Gurudutt Hegde.

22 candidates filed 28 sets of nomination papers for four assembly constituencies in Gadag district. So far 73 sets of nomination papers have been filed in the district.

On Wednesday, the fourth day of filing nominations, 27 candidates filed 34 nomination papers in Haveri district. These include another set of nomination papers filed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
