Maharashtra news: A minor was detained by police in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly posting derogatory remarks about warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on social media, an official said on Sunday (May 7). Based on a complaint, sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc.) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious act, intended to insult religion) Case has been registered under. An officer of Bhiwandi’s Shanti Nagar police station said that sections of the IPC were registered.

The complainant, who is an autorickshaw driver, alleged that he came across a post on Instagram by the minor accused on Friday (May 5), which contained derogatory remarks and pictures of Shivaji Maharaj, they said. The complainant claimed that the remarks hurt the sentiments of citizens who respected the warrior king, he said.

The minor accused was taken into custody by the police on Saturday (May 6), they said, adding that further investigation is underway.
