Mamata Banerjee Suggests Meeting Of All Opposition Chief Ministers On Governors’ Functioning, Says Stalin

The Tamil Nadu chief minister said Banerjee suggested that chief ministers of all opposition-ruled states should meet to decide the next course of action.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Stalin on Wednesday said he expressed solidarity with the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu for its initiative against the “undemocratic functioning” of governors.

The Tamil Nadu chief minister said Banerjee suggested that chief ministers of all opposition-ruled states should meet to decide the next course of action.

“Honorable West Bengal Chief Minister @MamataOfficial spoke to me on phone to express her solidarity & appreciation for our initiative against the undemocratic functioning of governors in non-BJP ruled states & suggested that all opposition chief ministers meet and take action The next way has to be decided.” said in a tweet.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly had recently passed a resolution demanding a time limit for governors to give their assent to state bills and Stalin had written to chief ministers of non-BJP regimes in their respective states to do so. .

While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said his government would do so in the next assembly session, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said his government would consider Stalin’s proposal “very seriously”.
