KOLKATA: A 54-year-old businessman and his son were arrested from Bidhannagar on Wednesday for duping a businessman of Rs 32 lakh by falsely promising to get a new car on rent under the Italian Consulate Kolkata office. Police said the accused – Dilip Chowdhary and his son Rajdeep – were absconding for a few months since the complainant Nirmalendu Dutta Filed an FIR.
Dutta, a resident of Murshidabad and owner of a car service, got in touch with Chowdhary, who introduced himself as an agent in the transport business. Chowdhary told Dutta that he had sources in the Italian High Commission Kolkata office and could act as a facilitator. Chowdhary also lured Italian commerce by offering good deals on buying a new car and renting it for daily use. Had promised to arrange to bring it to the embassy office.” said an officer.
Dutta paid Rs 32 lakh in two installments to Chowdhary and his son. Dutta said, “But whenever I asked about the car, both of them said it would take time. Then they stopped taking calls, after which I contacted the police.”
Both have been sent to police custody for five days.
