The incident has reportedly sparked public outrage on social media as well. hashtags likemanipur violence‘, ‘Shameful’, ‘Enough is enough’ trending on Twitter. Netizens have demanded immediate action against the mob that harassed the women in the video.
In the complaint filed with the police, the date of the incident in Kangpokpi district has been mentioned as May 4. However, the FIR was registered on June 21 in Thoubal district. A case of kidnapping, gang rape and murder was registered against unknown persons. The FIR states, “The three women were physically forced to strip off their clothes and were made naked in front of the crowd.”
According to the complaint, the mob first killed a man and later forced two women to strip naked. A 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and killed when her brother tried to intervene. After this the women ran away.
