Mumbai Police arrests wanted man in online fraud case from Vizag hotel

A man wanted in several cases of online fraud was arrested by a Mumbai Police team from a hotel here on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as D. Srinivasa Rao and is wanted in several cases of cyber fraud in cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai.

According to the Visakhapatnam Cyber ​​Crime Police, Srinivasa Rao was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Wednesday when he was staying at a hotel with his family members.

Cybercrime Inspector K. Bhavani Prasad said, “We need to check whether there is any case registered against Srinivasa Rao in Visakhapatnam or any other part of Andhra Pradesh.” Hindu,

Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Pendurthi, has been living in Hyderabad for a long time. Police said he allegedly duped people of crores of rupees by duping them online.

Mumbai Police picked up five people including Srinivasa Rao. The other four are from Thane and Kolkata. Police seized around 40 bank accounts and seized ₹1.50 crore in cash from them.

Explaining their modus operandi, the police said, “The fraudsters make calls to people posing as police officers. They then blackmail them by saying that they have received weapons and drugs in couriers sent by them. They then ask victims to send their bank details or income tax details to verify the ownership of the couriers. The gang members force the victims to reveal their OTP and then withdraw huge amounts from their bank accounts.”
