Neeraj Chopra starts his 2023 Diamond League campaign on strong note with world lead in Doha

Neeraj Chopra began his javelin throw campaign at the 2023 Diamond League in Doha on Friday. India’s star javelin thrower, who achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Diamond League final last year, has clinched the first spot in the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 88.67m. He took the world lead with his first throw in the event.

At the event, which took place at the Qatar Sports Club in Doha, Neeraj was up against Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jakub Wadlejch, world champion Andersen Peters, European champion Julian Weber and former Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott in the tournament.

Olympic gold medalist Chopra retained the top spot with his first throw of 88.67m, which proved to be his winning effort.

The 2023 Diamond League comprises 13 meetings, of which the Doha event is the first. The two-day Diamond League Finals is scheduled for September 16-17 in Eugene.
