BHUBANESWAR: BJD’s Dipali Das He defeated his nearest rival Tankadhar Tripathi of BJP by over 48,000 votes in the Jharsuguda assembly by-election. The counting of votes was done on Saturday.
While Deepali got over 1.07 lakh votes, BJP got 58,000 votes and Congress came third with 4,400 votes.
The sympathy wave for Dipali, whose father and former minister Naba Kishore Das was assassinated on 29 January, necessitating a by-election on 10 May, has been fueled by the continued popularity of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the effective micro-management of the ruling regional party. Dipali, 27, who entered electoral politics after her father’s assassination, completed her B.Com from KC College, Mumbai in 2018 and MBA from EU Business School in Barcelona, Spain in 2020.
In his election affidavit, he described himself as an entrepreneur and disclosed his income as Rs. 72.87 lakh in his income tax return for the year 2021-22. Deepali has declared her net worth of assets as Rs 3.07 crore.
