The aircraft made an emergency landing at the Raja Bhoj airport, Bhopal police commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra told PTI, He did not give further details, but a Congress leader said a technical glitch led to the unscheduled landing.

Senior Congress leader and former chairperson of Madhya Pradesh Women’s Commission Shoba Ojha said, “The chartered plane carrying Soniaji and Rahulji had to make an emergency landing due to some technical snag.”

On learning of the development, senior Congress leaders including Ojha, former Union Minister Suresh Pachauri, MLAs PC Sharma, Arif Masood and Kunal Chowdhary reached the airport and met the Gandhi family in the lounge. He also inquired about his well being.

Ojha said the chartered plane was on its way from Bengaluru to New Delhi, where Rahul and Sonia Gandhi had attended a major meeting of opposition parties earlier in the day. “They both left for New Delhi by an Indigo flight at around 9.30 pm,” he said.
