Guwahati: DGP GP Singh has dismissed a suspended police officer who was absconding for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor, taking objectionable photographs and making obscene gestures inside a police station last week.
According to the FIR lodged by the 17-year-old girl at Nalbari police station on June 26, the complainant and her male companion were brought to Ghograpar police station on June 21 after some villagers allegedly caught them in an objectionable position. A police officer allegedly asked the girl to strip after which he took obscene pictures of her.
Reviewing the investigation in the case on Friday, the DGP said the probe has progressed well, but Biman Roy, the suspended OC of Ghograpara police station, is still absconding. He was suspended on Thursday.
He said, “I have issued certain instructions to the district police regarding the investigation. One of them is that the investigating officer will now have to declare the sacked OC a proclaimed offender, if he is not found soon.”
Being the DGP and head of the state police force, Singh said he took the decision to dismiss Roy from service in accordance with the law.
“This will send a strong message to all serving police personnel about abiding by the law of the land,” he added.
He further added that Roy’s dismissal from service can also be taken as a warning and advice to all Assam Police personnel to maintain the sanctity of police stations and ensure that they are the safest place for our children and women. stay tuned.
