Ajay Mandavi of Kanker district has been working in the field of wood craft since 2005. In 2010, the then Collector NK Khakha had asked him to teach woodcraft to the jail inmates. Since then Ajay Mandavi has been teaching woodcraft to the prisoners. Most of the prisoners to whom Ajay Mandavi taught woodcraft were undertrials in Naxal cases.
About 400 Naxalites who once used to play Holi of blood with guns in their hands, are now living their lives happily by learning woodcraft from Ajay Mandavi with the skills of their hands. He was awarded the Padma Shri award for these works.
