Sources say that when Mukul Roy returned to TMC after the BJP’s defeat in the 2021 West Bengal elections, he felt that he would get his old place back. However, this did not happen and his health also started deteriorating.
Mukul Roy’s sudden visit to Delhi and his eagerness to rejoin the Bharatiya Janata Party has raised many questions. Different political analysts have different views on the situation facing them.
What happened here? On Monday, BJP’s Shubhendu Adhikari tweeted purported letters from several Trinamool Congress leaders linked to the teacher recruitment scam. Mukul Roy’s son Subhranshu was also named.
The same night, when Mukul Roy boarded a flight to Delhi, his son came to the airport and requested that the plane be grounded. She said that her father was not mentally stable and some people were taking him to Delhi. Subhranshu’s statement created an uproar in political and administrative circles.
Further, a missing complaint of Mukul Roy was lodged by Subhranshu at Kolkata’s NSCBI Airport police station on Monday night.
When asked about this, Subhranshu said, ‘I know he has gone to Delhi, but I don’t know where he has gone in Delhi. My father is not well. His phone is also switched off.”
Mukul Roy on Wednesday said in Delhi that he has resigned from the TMC and will take up any responsibility the BJP assigns to him.
Addressing a press conference, he said, ‘There is no question of resigning from TMC. I’m not even a part of it. I have already resigned from TMC… Earlier I was in BJP and will be in the same party again. If BJP assigns me responsibilities, I will duly fulfill them.
Shubhendu Adhikari, however, said that the West Bengal BJP is not interested in bringing in rejected leaders from other parties.
“We are not interested in these type of people. We are interested in consolidating booths. West Bengal BJP is very independent now. We do not need to bring any leader. We will not allow such rejected people. Have been,” he said.
TMC President and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also reacted to this issue.
“Who will go to Delhi, who will go to Punjab, that is their issue. He was in BJP. His son has lodged a missing complaint. The administration will work on that.
Sources say that when Mukul Roy returned to TMC after the BJP’s defeat in the 2021 West Bengal elections, he felt that he would get his old place back. However, this did not happen and his health also started deteriorating. Also, Suvendu went to court demanding that Roy be removed from his position as MLA.
Then, Mukul Roy started making “irrelevant statements” which indicated that he was not in a sound mental state. Sources say that he may have gone to Delhi to restore his ties with the BJP and regain his relevance. He said it could also be an attempt to get relief from corruption charges against him and his son.
In Delhi, Roy said, “I was not well, and hence I was out of politics for some time. I am ready now and will do whatever work is assigned to me. I was always in the BJP and did not go anywhere. But there is no pressure.”
