KALYAN: A week after a retired police constable went missing from Badlapur, his body was found buried near a dam in Murbad on Monday. Two people have been arrested for the murder of Ashok Mohite (68).
The main accused, Mahadu Valkoli, had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from the policeman, who was repeatedly demanding to repay the amount. Then Valkoli lured the policeman to bring him medicine to cure his asthma and asked him to come along. Valkoli took his friend, Laxman Jadhav (56), along and the two men took the elderly constable from Badlapur to Murbad near the Deoghar dam.
The constable had left the house asking his son to go for a walk, but when he did not return, the son lodged a complaint with the Badlapur (West) police station.
Senior inspector Arun Kshirsagar said police probe revealed that Mohite had transferred Rs 2.02 lakh to Valkoli. Also Valcoli was repeatedly inquiring about the security of the policeman.
He said, ‘We found it suspicious. The police picked him up and he confessed to strangulating her with the help of his friend. The dead body has been recovered.
