The party is contesting the civic elections for the first time. Out of total 34 wards, AAP fielded candidates from 21 wards.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered yet another electoral defeat in less than six months when it failed to win a single seat in the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections, the results of which were declared on Thursday.

Worse, all its candidates lost their deposits in the election.

The party was contesting the civic elections for the first time. Out of total 34 wards, AAP fielded candidates from 21 wards. Party candidates could not even touch the double digit figure in three wards.

A candidate from Malyana ward got only 6 votes, candidate from Vikasnagar got 9 votes and candidate from Kasumpti got 8 votes. The party got 373 votes out of a total of 55,385 votes.

Even the votes polled for NOTA were more than the total votes polled by the party; 465 voters did not press any of the above buttons.

The party contested from a total of 21 wards, out of which the party got less than 20 votes in 16 seats. In the 21 wards that were contested for the SMC polls, the party’s candidates could not even touch the 50-vote mark.

The highest number of votes polled in favor of the party was 42 from Engine House Ward. The party had suffered a similar loss in the state assembly elections held last year.

Despite convenor Arvind Kejriwal conducting roadshows, the party failed to win a single seat in the assembly elections.

However, AAP leaders blamed the late decision of contesting the polls for the defeat.
