Sports being neglected in TS: Bandi

TS BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday accused the BRS government of ignoring sports and neglecting playgrounds while promoting liquor consumption across the state.

“There is no proper budget for the Games and there is no incentive to the players. The playgrounds have disappeared while the school buildings are in a dilapidated condition. On the other hand, the Modi government is giving maximum attention to sports and increasing the budget from Rs 466 crore to Rs 3,397 crore.

Addressing a gathering at Vijay Khel Ground (Chadarghat) during the launch of ‘Khelo India-Jeeto Telangana’ game in the presence of National Commission for Backward Classes Chairman Hansraj Ahir, Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman and others, he said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked all the MPs to organize such sports meets for the youth in their respective areas in the country.

He appreciated Mr Laxman for holding the meeting in the old city under the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency and said it also underlines the party’s resolve about the seriousness of winning the seat in the next election. While a similar sports meet was held in Karimnagar, the Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of North East G Kishan Reddy was recently held in Secunderabad.

Mr Laxman claimed that under the BJP government at the Centre, there was no political interference in sports or in the awarding of top civilian awards. Shri Ahir appreciated the initiative and urged the youth to make full use of this opportunity as it helped in personality development to face various challenges in life ahead.
