Sports streaming firm DAZN opens CoE to invest over ₹1,000 crore.

Sports streaming service provider DAZN on Wednesday announced the opening of a technology development center in Hyderabad, its first in India and fifth globally, with plans to hire 650 more people, mostly engineers, by December .

The India Development Center, a center of excellence focused on sports streaming technologies, already employs over 350 people. DAZN aims to invest ₹200 crore in the new facility and recruit 1,000 people by December. CEO Shay Segev and CTO Sandeep Tiku said during a media interaction that by December 2024, the workforce would be increased to around 2,500.

The facility, which will serve as a software development hub for some of the new products rolled out by the company, including an interactive app, will be spread over one lakh square feet and can seat 900 people. Discussions have begun to add more space to accommodate the growth, Mr. Tiku said, adding that the company intends to invest Rs 1,000 crore in its operations in Hyderabad over the next five years.

“The emergence of sophisticated streaming technologies, innovation with AI, computer vision, AR/VR and wearable technology has the potential to bring live sports to fans in a way they have never experienced before. The amazing technical talent pool in Hyderabad and across India will greatly help DAZN in providing high quality streaming and amazing fan engagement,” he said in a release.

The company has other software development centers in Poland, Amsterdam, Leeds and London. DAZN has a global headquarters of approximately 3,000 people.
