Sunil Jakhar holding the post of BJP President in Chandigarh.
Sunil Jakhar, the newly appointed state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab, took charge at the party’s state office in Chandigarh on Tuesday. Punjab BJP in-charge Vijay Rupani and Union Minister Som Prakash were specially present on the occasion. In the coronation program of Jakhar, the absence of former Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma was felt by everyone. Apart from Ashwini Sharma, senior leaders like Captain Amarinder Singh and Manpreet Badal also did not turn up for Jakhar’s coronation programme.
On the other hand, Sunil Jakhar, soon after assuming the post of Punjab BJP president, said that there will be no compromise with Shiromani Akali Dal, an old ally of the party, in the coming elections in Punjab. Jakhar made it clear that now the BJP will contest all the seats in Punjab on its own. The BJP will no longer play the role of a younger brother to the Akali Dal, but will enter the fray to compete with it.

Captain Amarinder and Manpreet also remained absent
In the coronation ceremony held at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s headquarters in Chandigarh, not only former chief Ashwani Sharma remained absent, but former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh also remained absent. No one from Captain’s family had reached the programme. Apart from this, Manpreet Singh Badal, a fan of poet Faiz who switched from Akali to Congress and then to saffron, also stayed away from the programme.
The absence of these mainstream party leaders was much talked about among those present at the event. BJP’s own people were whispering that former chief Ashwini Sharma had distanced herself from the day the party high command decided to make Sunil Jakhar, who joined BJP a few months back from Congress, as the chief. He did not even go to Sri Harmandir Sahib to bow down with Jakhar.
Took charge after worship
As soon as Sunil Jakhar came to BJP from Congress, he changed all his customs and policies. After being painted in saffron, he has now become a pure Hinduist. He took over his office today according to the entire Hindu custom. By calling pundits, they got the mantras chanted in the BJP office and first got the worship done, after that went to the program and took charge and sat on the chairman’s chair.
