Telangana: 7.6 lakh homes with six voters each under ECI radar | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Around 7.6 lakh houses with more than six voters in Telangana have come under the scanner of the Election Commission of India. Seventysix lakh voters live in these houses, mainly from Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. Some door numbers have more than 100 voters in Kukatpally, Serilingampally and Khammam constituencies, sources said.
For instance, Karwan assembly constituency in the Old City has 17,139 houses with 2.1 lakh voters at an average of 12.5 voters in each house. Shockingly, Nampally has an average of 13.4 voters in each house.
Poll experts said that in slums multiple people reside under the same roof. Similarly, in certain constituencies of Hyderabad like Yakutpura and Karwan, the population density is very high and hence, the voter numbers are also way too high.
LB Nagar assembly constituency has 6,759 houses with 1.48 lakh voters and Rajendranagar has 13,901 houses with 1.47 lakh voters.
Telangana chief electoral officer Vikas Raj said: “We are conducting an enquiry. In several cases, voters have shifted. In the next few weeks, we will check these houses door to door and get a sense. Based on standard operating procedures issued by ECI, we are working on weeding out bogus or duplicate voters.”
Officials received around nine lakh applications across the state, mostly for shifting the voters from one constituency to another and for correction of entries in the existing electoral rolls.
Vikas Raj said a special drive was conducted in Hyderabad with the help of residential welfare associations. “We have received around 40,000 new applications seeking address changes or corrections from these RWAs in the city and Rangareddy district,” he said.
