Belagavi: Thirst FoundationAn NGO working on water scarcity in remote areas has started a lake rejuvenation project in Nagarmunnoli. Raibag Taluks of the district. Nagarmunnoli has a population of around 8,000, said a release. Although a small stream runs through the village, it has water only during the rainy season.
the villagers had contacted Pyaas Foundation in 2016, the year the organization was founded. Then, the foundation supplied drinking water to the villagers for about two months. But now there is a shortage of water in the village.
There is no water in any of the open wells in the village and the borewells have gone more than 700 feet deep. Thirst is developing a project that will create a lake by excavating it to a suitable depth to provide water. Apart from this, the lake will also help in improving the groundwater level.
According to the release, the lake is being constructed at a cost of about Rs 15 lakh with the contribution of the public and thirst. A target has been set to complete this project by the first week of June.
This is the 11th such project developed by PYAAS which is working for last 8 years to ensure water sufficiency in the district. Pyaas has also restarted its project of supplying water to the people of Belagavi through its tankers. news network
