Guwahati: Three people, including a child, were killed and two others injured in an attack by wild elephants on State Highway 12 in Assam’s Goalpara district on Thursday.

Two vehicles were also damaged in the incident, ANI quoted Lakhipur Forest Range Officer Dhruba Dutta as saying.
PTI quoted a senior forest official as saying that the herd consisted of 42 elephants and the elephants are still roaming in the area in two groups.
A police officer said the incident took place when the elephants were crossing the road at Choto Sigri in Lakhipur area.
“The mob attacked an e-rickshaw, in which a family was going from Lakhipur to Dudhnoi, and attacked a Guwahati-bound four-wheeler. Two people on the three-wheeler and one person in the car were killed in the incident ” He added.
Ramani Rabha (29) and her 17-month-old daughter Jinisha were killed in the attack on the e-rickshaw. His wife Manisha Rabha and five-year-old son Dhanush were seriously injured, the official said.
“Both have been admitted to a local hospital in Lakhipur and are undergoing treatment,” he said.
The mob also attacked the car and one person died on the spot, the officer said.
The deceased has been identified as Jaibar Ali (38) and was a local businessman.
