UK police shoot down two dogs and Taser Man, action sparks anger

Police had reached the spot after receiving a complaint of dog attack.

The Metropolitan Police shot two dogs and killed a man after a dog attack incident was reported. According to BBCThe incident happened at 5 pm (local time) on Sunday. Police said they received a call about a woman being attacked by a dog in Commercial Road, Poplar, in east London. A clip of the incident is circulating on social media which shows the man holding two dogs in the area before a tussle ensued and the dogs were shot.

Policemen are also seen talking to the man, apparently persuading him to surrender. After a while the situation gets heated and the dogs leap towards the policemen but are promptly shot dead.

Met police said the man was later arrested and charged with dog attack.

A spokesperson for the Met Office was quoted as saying, “Officers visited the site where the aggressive behavior of two dogs was of great concern and posed a significant threat to them.” BBC,

“A man has been arrested in connection with the incident on charges of having a dog dangerously out of control and assault. He has been taken into police custody,” the spokesperson added.

The police also defended their actions and the spokesman said that such decisions “are never easy to make” but that “the police have a duty to act where necessary”.

Police said that “both dogs were destroyed” at the scene.

Metro The man, identified as Louis Turnbull, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after being charged with being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control and being in possession of a dog whilst the dog was was disqualified from possessing or possessing.

The video sparked a lot of debate on social media, with users calling the police action inhuman.

A woman who lives in the area said, “I don’t think the dogs looked aggressive, they were both wagging their tails.” BBC,

“I was very upset, I was shouting at them, I was trying to stop it somehow but I couldn’t,” said his partner.
