Union Power Minister urges industries to set targets to go green

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy RK Singh on Saturday urged industry leaders to set targets to go green and take advantage of the provisions of the Green Energy Open Access Rules to get green energy at reasonable rates. urged. Green and sustainable environment.

The Minister was holding a meeting with industry stakeholders to discuss issues related to the Green Energy Open Access Rules. Held in hybrid mode, more than 500 participants participated virtually and 50 physically.

Singh said, “The Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022 is a major step towards India going green and cutting emissions by 45% in line with India’s updated NDC target for 2030. This will bring down the cost of electricity significantly. Will help too.”

The minister also asked the stakeholders to inform the government if the green energy open access rules are not being followed in letter and spirit so that the government can take up the issue with the concerned agencies and take punitive action if necessary.

The government last year notified the Electricity (Promotion of Renewable Energy through Green Energy Open Access) Rules, 2022 to accelerate India’s renewable energy programmes.

Green energy free-use regulations promote the production, purchase and consumption of green energy, including energy from waste-to-energy plants. Any consumer can use Green Open Access, and the open access transaction limit for green energy has been reduced from 1 MW to 100 kW to enable small consumers to buy renewable energy through open access.

According to the ministry, consumers are entitled to demand supply of green power from distribution companies and discoms will be bound to purchase and supply green power to eligible consumers. Approval for Green Open Access is to be given in 15 days else it will be deemed to have been granted.

Ministry of Power has already notified Grid Controller of India Limited as the Central Nodal Agency to operate the Green Open Access Registry Portal, a single window portal to register and apply for Green Energy Open Access . All information relating to approvals, rejections, amendments, deductions etc. is made available to the concerned participants through the web-based GOAR portal, which acts as a central registry.
