Prayagraj: A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and sister and seriously injured his father with a sharp weapon in Kareli area under Kareli police station limits. Prayagraj Wednesday afternoon District.
The police have taken the accused youth into custody, who has been identified as Mohammad Arif.
The deceased women were identified as Kareli resident Anisa Begum (65) and Nikhat Jahan alias Nahir Fatima (33). The injured’s father Mohammad Qadir (70) is a retired government official. He was admitted to SRN Hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
Four policemen, including ACP (Kareli) Shwetabh Pandey, also suffered minor injuries when the accused allegedly threw acid bottles at them when the police team was attempting to nab him.
The youth also set a part of the house on fire with a domestic LPG cylinder and fire department personnel as well as policemen had to use tear gas, anti-riot guns and water pressure pipes to ensure entry into the house to nab the culprit. The police have also seized three sharp-edged weapons – an ax and two knives – used in the murders.
ACP (Kareli) told TOI, “Accused Mohammad Arif had a dispute with his family members following which he attacked his parents and sister with sharp weapons. As soon as other family members including Arif’s elder brother Run to the other side of the house.” To escape his wrath, Arif targets his parents and sister with the intention of killing them. The ACP said that Arif had sent his wife and children somewhere before committing the crime. He also said that the police would interrogate the accused in detail. DCP (City) Deepak Bhukar told TOI, “Preliminary police probe has revealed that the accused hatched a conspiracy to eliminate his family members following some family dispute. After entering the house, the police found that the accused had accumulated a substantial number of acid bottles, two to three knives and an ax with the intention of settling scores with his family members.
When the police recovered the body of his sister, a part of her face was found burnt.
After hearing cries for help, neighbors and others informed the local police station and the police cordoned off the area anticipating a major disturbance. The accused threw acid bottles at the police team after injuring his family members.
On information, senior police personnel along with fire department officials and forensic experts rushed to the spot and managed to get the accused out of the house. The police have also rescued two minors from the house.
