Traditionally, Apple unveils its new iphone model in September, they will be made available for purchase a few days later in the same month. However, the launch of the iPhone 12 series was delayed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the upcoming iPhone 15 series may also face a similar postponement, which is likely to hit the market in October instead of September.
According to Bank of America (BoA) analyst Vamsi Mohan, who oversees supply chain audits, the launch of the iPhone 15 could be pushed forward by a few weeks, making its debut in the December quarter. Despite raising his price target for Apple shares, Mohan expressed concern that iPhone sales for the fiscal year ending in September 2023 could be lower than expected.
The analyst had previously made accurate predictions about the iPhone 12 launch in 2020, with shipments being delayed due to the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain.
Apart from the overall delay, there are reports that suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models may face a shortage when they launch in September due to screen manufacturing issues.
Apple’s display suppliers are using a new manufacturing process to reduce the width of the bezel and provide a slightly larger screen for the Pro model. However, LG Display is facing challenges in the process, with the screen failing reliability tests when attached to the Pro model’s metal shell. Apple is reportedly working with LG to tweak the design to pass reliability tests and may even use Samsung-made displays for assembly. These issues could particularly affect the availability of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the most premium model in the series.
