Kolkata: A 57-year-old woman who was meeting a family at a restaurant Kankurgachi She died after falling about 25 feet when the tempered glass exterior facade – against which she was leaning – suddenly broke and gave way. Padma Maloo, a resident of Shibpur in Howrah, had come to the restaurant along with around 10 other family members and acquaintances.
DC (ESD) Gaurav Lal said the incident took place around 4.30 pm when Malu, who was standing in front of the mirror on the second floor of the restaurant, leaned against him. “Moments later, the glass wall broke and she fell down. She was immediately rushed to a nearby nursing home in an unconscious state, following which she was shifted to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.” ” His body has been sent for postmortem.
According to information received from the police, a family get-together was organized at the venue. Police suspect that the victim had leaned against the wall to take a picture, when the wall leaned and she accidentally lost her balance and fell to her death.
Restaurant staff said they, too, were shocked by the unfortunate turn of events and the tragedy that happened in a split second. Police are examining video footage to ascertain how the glass wall shattered.
