Chennai: Customs Officer Chennai Airport Arrested A Tanzania National For smuggling 1.26 kg of heroin, which he swallowed in capsule form.
person identified as Joseph Patrick Minyaro He was intercepted upon arrival from Entebbe based on intelligence, and interrogation revealed that he had swallowed a capsule containing heroin.
He was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and the capsule was safely removed. In all, 86 capsules were recovered and heroin weighing around 1.266 kg was confiscated.
The value of the seizure has been estimated at Rs 8.86 crore. He was arrested after doctors confirmed that he was safe.
A customs official said, “In such cases, there is a possibility of the capsule bursting inside the body which can be fatal. Hence, we do not take any risk and seek medical help.”
