Ateeq himself did not even know that the day his son was handed over to him. That day will also be his last day. The 12 hours that passed between Asad’s funeral and Atiq’s murder were no less than a coincidence. Atiq may not have been able to see his son being buried while he was alive, but while dying, the mention of his son came to his mind.

What happened during these 12 hours. How April 15 became a black day for Ateeq and his family. Let’s tell everything from one side…

Beginning with the morning of Assad’s funeral
The scene on the morning of April 15 in Chakia was completely different. Even before people woke up, the area was cordoned off by 4 platoons of 200 RAF commandos. More than 500 policemen and security forces who came in 2 PAC buses were deployed in Atiq’s locality. Around 8 in the morning, people left their homes to attend the funeral. When the mob moved towards Ateeq’s ancestral house, the police officers chased them 500 meters away.

Meanwhile, some women tried to go inside the house and the soldiers caught them. Present there, DCP Crime Satish Chandra of Prayagraj brought the extra police force under control. However, after strictness, the unruly crowd calmed down.

When the women started gathering at Atiq's house, the women constables surrounded them from all sides like this.

When the deadbody entered Prayagraj, special relatives were sent to the cemetery.
DCP Crime Satish Chandra got a call around 9 am. Information was received that Asad’s dead body has entered the Prayagraj border. Security forces should be alerted. Only special relatives should be allowed to attend the funeral.

As soon as he hung up the phone, Officer Satish called Atiq’s relatives. Everyone’s identity cards were seen. Names noted. The security was so tight that instead of sending the relatives in their vehicles, the police drove them to the cemetery in their vehicles. When the police were talking to Assad’s cousin, maternal grandfather Hamid Ali, we were also standing next to them.

We spoke to Hamid. He told, “To bury Assad in the cemetery, a coffin was ordered from the mosque with a furnace. Preparations were made that his funeral procession would be taken to the cemetery through the whole village. But the administration allowed at least people to attend the funeral. Well, whatever seems right to them will happen.”

Hamid was talking about taking the funeral from the middle village in front of the DSP. But he was later denied.

Asad was tall, so the grave was dug 6 and a half feet long
Everything was going according to plan. Women in Chakia on one side ‘We have to see the soil – we have to see the soil’ were raising slogans. On the other hand, Asad’s dead body was brought to the cemetery through another route. Atiq’s father Haji Firoz Ahmad and his wife’s grave are in the Kasari-Masari cemetery. It was decided to bury Assad next to their graves.

We came to this cemetery a day ago and saw the preparations here, Ateeq’s relative Mohd. Talked to Ubaid. They told us, “Asad was the tallest of Atiq’s five sons. So his grave was dug six and a half feet long. After being brought here, he would first be placed on the gamwara (a platform used for cremation). Then he would be bathed. Later the shroud will be raised. At the end, after reading Namaz-e-Janaza, he will be handed over to ashes.

Assad was buried exactly as Ubaid had told him. While his last rites were being performed, the entire cemetery was converted into a cantonment. Even drones were being monitored from the sky. On the other hand, in the Dhumanganj police station, the police was solving the mystery of Atiq’s Pakistan connection.

Assad handed over within 30 minutes
The cremation process started at 10 am. In about 30 minutes, Asad was handed over to the ground. After this everyone came out. We spoke to Altab Ahmed. All they said was, “We got the dead body washed (bathed), then prayers were offered, now we are going back by giving soil.” Not only Altab but no one involved in the funeral was ready to say anything. Most came out of the cemetery and went outside.

When I wanted to talk to some other people involved in the soil about Assad, they refused to speak anything in front of the camera. When we turned off the camera, a young man said, “Asad was small but understood things very well. He helped many people in this locality. He used to say that he would become an engineer, but he kept on going to court. When I heard about it, I had decided that I would study law further. I used to play with him, who knew that one day I would attend his funeral.”

At least let him see his son for the last time
We talked to Assad’s maternal grandfather, Hamid Ali, who came out last after giving soil. He said, “Asad was Ateeq’s most favorite child. He used to obey his father in everything. Yes, he was a bit mischievous but never got into trouble with anyone. His friends used to call him ‘Chote Sansad ji’. It would have been better if he had been allowed to come here. At least he would have seen his son for the last time.”

This is Assad's maternal grandfather Hamid. Wanted that at least Atiq was allowed to see the face of the son.

At the time when Hamid Ali was talking about Atiq. Expressing sorrow for not being able to attend Asad’s funeral. He did not know at all that after a few days he would have to perform the last rites of Atiq and Ashraf.

After burying Asad, people went to their respective homes. Now the second half of the story starts from here i.e. from 10:30 am to 10:30 pm. The 12 hours in which Atiq is killed…

Ateeq could not bury his son even after being just 4 kilometers away
Atiq was buried at this place, not far from that cemetery. Police was interrogating him at Dhumanganj police station just 4 km away. To see the son for the last time, he kept begging in front of the police, begged many times, but his every attempt failed.

At 12 noon when a break was taken in the interrogation of Atiq-Ashraf. Atiq was then told that his son had been delivered. The immense sorrow of not being able to see the son for the last time broke him from inside. He cried a lot and lay down on the sack lying on the ground in the police station.

Late night mafia brothers were brought out of the police station
This was the third day of questioning of Atiq and Ashraf. Along with the police, the ATS was questioning both regarding arms smuggling. Questions and answers continued till the evening. Then around 10 pm both were taken to Colvin Hospital for routine medical checkup.

The Mafia Brothers were once again out of lockup. Seeing this opportunity, the media surrounded Atiq. He was being asked questions regarding Asad’s funeral. Meanwhile, 3 boys posing as media personnel came breaking the security cordon of the police and shot 2 bullets one after the other in Atiq’s head. Ateeq fell on the ground. After this firing was done on Ashraf. Both piled up there. It was 10:35 in the night when this incident happened.

Atiq and his brother died as soon as the bullet hit. Dead bodies of both can be seen in the picture.

After Atiq’s death, the three attackers surrendered. The attackers were identified as Lavlesh, Sunny and Arun Maurya. Media card, camera and mic have also been recovered from them. Constable Mansingh was also shot in this attack, who has been admitted to the hospital.
