181 helps 16-year-old boy stop abusive ‘chat’ Surat News – Times of India

Appearance: A worried mother Navsari contacted Abhayam On Sunday, the helpline called for help for her 16-year-old daughter, who could not stop chatting with her adult online friend who kept using abusive language.
The mother noticed that the 32-year-old man was abusing her daughter during a chat on a mobile app. When she checked her phone, he found that she was chatting with the same person who had been abusing her for a long time. After a few unsuccessful attempts to stop the student and the man from chatting, the woman sought help from the helpline.
The woman also saw her daughter talking on the phone for hours. “The girl started chatting with the man on Instagram about a year ago. She was using her mother’s phone then,” an Abhayam counselor told TOI.
“The mother then tried to stop her girl from chatting and also warned the man. But they continued chatting and may have even met outside,” said the counsellor. The woman lost her husband to Covid-19 a year ago, since then she has been working as a tailor and earning money to raise her two daughters. He had recently given a mobile phone to his elder daughter.
“After this, she kept chatting with the man. It is unbelievable to see that the girl continued to interact with the man even after he repeatedly abused her.”
“It is possible that the girl has come under the spell of the man and hence could not stop herself from chatting with him. Abhayam’s counselors try to pacify him and make him delete app from his mobile,” the counselor said and added that they also contacted the man and warned him legal Action will be taken if the mother complains again.
