22-yr-old, Who Took Atm-fraud Lessons From Streaming Channel, Held In Giridih | Ranchi News – Times of India

Bokaro: Giridih police apprehended a 22-year-old criminal, Sanjeev Kumar, who had honed his criminal skills through tutorials on a streaming channel. Hailing from Dhaneta village in the Fatehpur police station area of Gaya district, Bihar, Sanjeev’s illicit activities involved manipulating ATM booths to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
The details of his modus operandi came to light after his arrest and subsequent grilling by Giridih SP Deepak Sharma.
Sharma said, “Sanjeev was caught red-handed by assistant sub-inspector Subodh Kumar Das at Mahtodih picket under Mufassil police station. The police seized six strips of ATM slot size, steel tools for currency trapping, and a motorcycle from him.”
The accused confessed to acquiring his fraudulent techniques from the streaming channel, where instructional videos guided him through cyber and ATM fraud.
One such video revealed a method exploiting a 15-minute window during which money could be stuck in the ATM’s cash withdrawal slot. By strategically placing a 10-inch by 2-inch strip made of steel, the criminal could trap the money, retrieve it after removing the strip within the allotted time, and make a swift getaway.
Sharma said Sanjeev collaborated with his partner, Deepu Kumar alias Chhotu, from Sirdalla under Nawada district, Bihar. They targeted unguarded ATM booths, exploiting the vulnerability of people attempting transactions.
