3 sentenced to life terms in Hazaribag dowry death case | Ranchi News – Times of India

HAZARIBAG: The husband, the father-in-law and the brother-in-law of a deceased woman, who was killed for dowry at Jhapa village in April 2021, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sixth Additional District and Sessions judge of the Hazaribag civil court, Kashika M Prasad, on Saturday.
Public prosecutor Manoj Kumar Jha informed the court that Basanti Kumari (25), the daughter of late Mahendra Sao from Kuta village in Jagdishpur panchayat under the Chouparan police station limits, was married to Angad Kumar of Jhapa village on April 16, 2016.
Basanti’s husband, father-in-law Kunjil Sao and brother-in-law Nirmal Sao demanded Rs 1 lakh in cash and a two-wheeler from her family members and warned that she would be killed if her family members failed to provide the dowry soon after their marriage.
The couple had two children also but on April 16, 2021, the in-laws doused Basanti with kerosene and set her on fire.
Two more accused, Basanti’s other brother-in-law Jitendra Sao and sister-in-law Savitri, who were named in the FIR, are absconding.
The judge found the accused guilty on April 4 this year under sections 498, 498 A and other sections of the IPC.
