40% women in Chikkamagaluru can’t afford free rides as there are no KSRTC buses Mysore News – Times of India

Chikkamagaluru: With the implementation of Power The scheme, which offers free travel for women, has led to a 25% increase in the number of passengers traveling in KSRTC buses operated by the Chikkamagaluru division. However, after the implementation of the new scheme the collection has declined by about 45%. Ironically, about 40% of the women in the district are deprived of the scheme due to non-availability of KSRTC buses in the district.
On the other hand, the number of passengers has touched 1.6 lakh and the revenue has touched Rs 65 lakh. After the implementation of the new scheme, there has been an increase of 20% in the number of women passengers. Earlier 15% to 20% passengers were women but now 40% seats are occupied by women.
As per KSRTC Divisional Controller KR BasavarajKSRTC is collecting Rs 35 to 40 lakh ticket amount and the ticket fee for women passengers will be paid by the state government. He said that the ticket amount for women passengers is between Rs 25 to 30 lakh in a day.
The DC said that KSRTC buses in the division cover a distance of about 1.80 lakh kilometers a day and generate a revenue of Rs 65 lakh.
Although the state government has launched the new scheme for women, nearly 40% of the women in the district were deprived of the scheme due to non-availability of KSRTC buses in 430 villages.
Annapurna, works as a laborer wooden block Taluk said, she travels 10 kilometers to reach her workplace and is dependent on private vehicles. He said, “There is no bus facility in our village and the newly launched scheme does not benefit us. It will be of great help if KSRTC starts a service at least in the morning and evening.”
However, KSRTC officials claimed that they needed at least 50 more buses and additional staff to cover all the areas.
