New Delhi: Karnataka’s Riddhi Kamlesh Kumar Maheshwari with 100 percentile scorer is the only woman among 43 toppers in E Joint Entrance Examination-Mains (Mains).JEE-Main) 2023.
National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the combined results for January and April in the early hours of Saturday. Telangana The state has the highest number of toppers with 11, followed by five each from Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. Out of 11.6 lakh candidates, more than 94.8% candidates appeared for JEE (Advanced) eligibility for undergraduate admissions in centrally funded technical institutions.
While 20 candidates scored 100 percentile in JEE (Main) January session, 23 scored 100 percentile or 100 NTA scores (JEE-Main) 2023 April session. Among the 43 toppers, 32 are from general category, seven from OBC category, three from Gen-EWS and one from SC category.
Last year two women candidates had secured 100 percentile. However, Riddhi is the only woman in this elite list this year. Riddhi’s family, a native of Rajasthan, had shifted to Mumbai before moving to Bangalore to prepare for JEE. Riddhi, a student of Gitanjali Olympiad School, Bellandur, has been preparing for JEE since class 11th. Hard work, it is achievable,” she said. Riddhi’s brother has graduated from IIT Kanpur. “I have heard many stories about IIT from my brother which have inspired me. It is not only the best place academically but it also helps in shaping our personality. While I thought of a backup option in commerce, my brother identified my strength in maths and said that I would be able to clear JEE,” she said.
Riddhi is very excited about her 100 percentile. “It is not that girls are bad at maths. It’s just that there are not as many girls in the field as there are boys. If the ratio was proportional then surely there would have been more girls in the list. For example, there is only one girl for 9 boys in my class,” she said. Riddhi said she loves maths and her decision to pursue engineering has to do with the subject.
NTA score is not the same as percentage of marks obtained. The percentile or NTA scores are normalized across multi-session papers and are based on the relative performance of all those who appeared in the exam in one session. As per the pre-existing policy, the rank of the candidates is released considering the best of the two NTA scores. Paper 1 is for admission to B.Tech/BE programs in IITs, NITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).
