Ranchi: Owners of 48 buildings out of 51 identified within the 20-km radius of Birsa Munda Airport, which were served notice by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) about a week ago, are yet to submit essential documents such as building plans and NOCs.
The airport authorities have written to the urban development and housing department, seeking their cooperation in addressing the issue as the tall structures could potentially be risky to flight operations. The urban development and housing department and the civic body are working together in this regard.
Airport director K L Agarwal said, “Prompt action was taken after it was found in a survey that the tall buildings could potentially interfere with flight paths and compromise aviation safety in the area. Aviation authorities and relevant departments are working closely to address these concerns.”
Town planner Arun Kumar said, “Many of the identified buildings lack proper documentation and have been constructed on unauthorized land. The corporation has urged the owners to submit essential documents such as building plans and no objection certificates. A reminder will be sent in two days and failure to comply with the same may result in legal action for unauthorized land occupation.” “As the airport is a crucial transportation hub in the region it is imperative that all necessary precautions are taken to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft. The aviation authorities have emphasized that these measures are being implemented as part of their commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards within the aviation industry,” Agarwal said.
Meanwhile, some of those building owners who have been served the notice claimed to have resided there for about half a century.
Mahavir Jaiswal, the owner of one of the houses served the notice, stated, “There are thousand of houses within the 20-km radius of the airport, but only a few are being targeted. We will challenge the notices through legal means as they appear unjust and problematic for us given that we possess all the necessary documents. It is causing us significant distress.”
